This walk will make you discover the most suggestive parts of Miasino.
The beginning is in Carcegna though, where there is a nice wide parking space and a nice trail from where we can depart.
The road follows some of the prettiest villas of the town until arriving on the prettiest one without a doubt, Villa Nigra.
From here we arrive in the City Hall Square, Piazza Beltrami, where there is also a small oratory named after Saint Mary. Start walking up towards the main church, there is a long flight of stairs or there is a more comfortable way with no stairs. The Church that you see is named after San Rocco and it is splendid and majestic.
The works for its construction started just a little before the terrible plague of 1630 hit Milan, as Alessandro Manzoni in “I Promessi Sposi” wrote, the plague also hit our area. The designated lazaretto was the oratory of San Carlo, just out of town, as you can see in one of the big paintings that adorn the Church of San Rocco, which is the protector of the people that were hit by the plague.
The facade of the Church, with classical features, remained unfinished for centuries and it was finished only in 1933 by the local architect Carlo Nigra.
The church is one of the biggest in the whole region.
From the nearby square, you can also reach the Garden of the Semplici, the simples garden, which is a small vegetable garden of aromatic herbs. The garden has free entry from May to September, from Wednesday to Sunday from 17:00 to 19:00.
We continue through and exit through the rear of the church that hides a small dirt road that leads to the outskirts of town. The road is used rarely by cars and it leads to the main road. Once crossed you continue through Regione Grupola, which is a calm neighborhood. Here you intercept a trail for the e-bikes, it has green and blu signs with written MTB. The trail is nice, immersed in green and with a few rivers here and there.
Miasino is the town directly above Orta. The quickest way to arrive there is certainly by car.
At the roundabout of Orta, take the second exit, if you are exiting Orta, and take the road that goes upwards. Follow it until you reach a crossroad, there take a right and continue on the road that goes upward. Follow this road to the next crossroad, here take a left and park in the parking near by. You are in Miasino!
For those who would like to reach it by foot do not worry, there are trails that connect Orta to Miasino. I just strongly advise you not to use the main road, as it is narrow and cars do pass.
To give you an idea of the distance, from the main square of Orta to the center of Miasino there are 3,5 kilometers
